Julio Torcato

Júlio Torcato completed a degree in fashion design at the Fashion Academy of Arts and Techniques of Porto in 1989. In the same year he won the contest Portex (spring / summer) for young designers. Other awards followed, including the 1st Design for Industry Portex Award. In the same year he starts participating in international fairs, the first being the Shem, in Paris, where he exhibits from 1989 to 1993.Since then his name has appeared in major national fashion events like Moda Lisboa and later Portugal Fashion in Oporto. He has also participated in several national and international fashion shows. In 1992 he founded his own design and fashion consultancy studio, aimed at supporting the textile and apparel industry, having been responsible since then for the design and image of several companies and national brands, including, most important among them Decénio, Queens, Lion of Porches, Salsa, Red Oak, having recently returned to Lion of Porches. At the same time he develops his own label "Julio Torcato." In 2008 he begins the process of internationalization of his own brand with the support of the Associação Seletiva Moda (Selective Fashion Association), Under his brand participated, amongst others, in shows in Poznan, Poland (2008), Brno, Czech Republic (2009), S. Paulo, Brazil, the Consulate of Portugal (2010), and Angola Fashion Week in Luanda (July 2011).Júlio Torcato is also a frequent jury in examining committees, most notably the Acrobactic and Modtissimo. Since 2007 he has also been teaching at the University of Beira Interior, the subject of project in master's degree in fashion design.His work has been referenced in publications like "Porto Cenários de Moda" (an edition Porto 2001, SA), in the book “Moda Portuguesa" by Cristina Duarte and several articles in the national and foreign press.
